# showSubtitles

Locality: effect **local**

## Description

Enables / disables showing of subtitles in a chat. Only scripted/engine chatter is affected, player manual chat is unaffected. Returns the previous state.

## Syntax

```sqf
showSubtitles enable
```

**Parameters:**
