# stopSound

*Command · Sounds · Arma 3 v2.12*

Locality: effect **local**

## Description

Terminates the given sound. If sound object provided, such as [say3D](../commands/say3D.md) and there is .lip file playback attached, this playback will also terminate.

## Syntax

```sqf
stopSound id or sound
```

**Parameters:**

- `id`: [Number](../topics/Number.md) - id returned by [playSoundUI](../commands/playSoundUI.md) and [playSound3D](../commands/playSound3D.md) commands

  > [!IMPORTANT]
  > Sound ids are **local**.
- `sound`: [Object](../topics/Object.md) - sound object such as [say3D](../commands/say3D.md), in which case the particular sound is stopped, or entity such as soldier, then all [say3D](../commands/say3D.md) sounds current and queued are stopped. Note that passing NetObject, when [say3D](../commands/say3D.md) is executed with 'isGlobal' option, will cause error. To stop global sound one needs to destroy the source, i.e. kill the speaking unit. *(since arma3 2.24)*

**Returns:** [Nothing](../topics/Nothing.md)

## Examples

### Example 1

```sqf
stopSound 10;
```
