# Display

**Display** is a UI object that holds Dialogs and [Control](../topics/Control.md)s. Similar to how controls are identified by IDCs, displays and dialogs are identified by IDDs. If the IDD is available, displays (and dialogs) can be accessed with [findDisplay](../commands/findDisplay.md). The existence of a distinction between displays and dialogs becomes apparent at time of creation and closing. A display uses the functions [createDisplay](../commands/createDisplay.md) and [closeDisplay](../commands/closeDisplay.md), whereas a dialog uses [createDialog](../commands/createDialog.md) and [closeDialog](../commands/closeDialog.md).

Introduced with Armed Assault, does not refer to Cold War Crisis or Resistance.
